Ian Day has had a highly successful career in academic medicine, but then found himself with family commitments incompatible with the typical 60-80 hour weeks of this demanding profession.
In just 18 months he built a portfolio of multilets (HMOs) which comfortably surpass his income from employment, but only take 2 hours per week to run.
Since resigning his job in June 2015, he has doubled the size of his investment portfolio, incorporated a company active in both property investment and management, created a ‘SSAS’ pension scheme linked to the company, has coached others in their property journey and is establishing a property investment fund for overseas investors with a City of London financier.
In property, the sky is the limit, with the opportunity to expand first class property business and services, with high returns per unit time, much more flexibility and control over one’s time, the opportunity to leave a much greater legacy; and (unlike employment), ownership of a business income stream sustainable in perpetuity. It also increases the scope in time and finance for charitable activity.
In his talk, Ian will share diverse elements of this experience and illustrate that adaptability and mindset (and system) are central to this kind of achievement, whether for reasons of finance or time.
As Ian says “Tomorrow’s entertainment might be anything from analysing possible deals or some portfolio data, to some aspect of estates development or infrastructure, some contract or legal correspondence, or controlling an arrival of bedbugs.”
His blueprint could be followed by many homeowners with the motivation to own either a lifestyle or a performance business.
(P.S. And almost all young professional tenants are great clients).
The start of the autumn is an excellent time to review your goals and to start your property journey.
