We are delighted to start the year with a presentation from Alaine Bradbury. She will be sharing her property journey – from life on a council estate to Bolton’s passive income queen.
She has great tips and advice for everyone and her story will inspire you all.
She’s especially passionate about encouraging women to invest, as property is for everyone, yet there seem to be fewer female role models. Or perhaps they keep quieter about their success …!
Whatever, Alaine has lots of great information to share for everyone.
Here’s what she has to say –
“Life priorities tend to drive women’s financial decisions, according to research; women have a habit of putting family first and themselves last.
This usually means prioritising day-to-day household financial decisions, rather than long-term investment decisions.
And that’s true for me. Throughout my 20’s I partied and worked towards owning a designer handbag collection. Or catch up with me in my early 30’s and I’d give myself a target of saving for a new sofa.
I was working for a property investor and saw first hand how wealth could accumulate, but somehow I didn’t think it was possible for me.
I’d grown up on a council estate in Bolton, the thought pattern went like this; get a council house, learn a trade so you can always work, you might get a job that pays sick pay, but you’ll have a state pension.
And don’t get pregnant, wait till your 30, then marry a dentist, they earn good money so you’ll have nice house and maybe some holidays abroad.
Looking back, I remember going to pay off our sofa weekly, mum would send me into town with £2.00 and a log book. So in my 30’s paying for a sofa felt like an achievement
Fast forward to 35 and it wasn’t until my relationship with my partner was over, and I was looking at raising my 3 year old daughter with single finances, that it dawned on me.
Would it really matter if we ate beans a few more nights a week?
If I actually swapped my short term financial household decisions to focus on long term passive income?
Yeah we could get by for the next few years on my salary – but what about when she’s 10?
Still getting by on a salary. No chance.”
Alaine’s journey is inspirational and she will show you exactly how she got started and went on to be so successful in Buy To Let.
